Police charge man with murder

A 31-year-old male has been charged with murder in connection with the brutal death of a Chinese national over the weekend.

The Ministry of Police advised in a statement yesterday that they received a call early Saturday morning in relation to the body of a man of Chinese descent. 

“On Saturday at 1:20a.m. police received a call concerning a body of a Chinese descent who has been found on the seawall at Eleele fou."

“He was taken to the Motootua hospital and was declared dead on arrival. The police investigation led to a 31-year-old male, who has been charged with murder and he is scheduled to appear in court on the 17th of September,” the police said in a statement.

Meanwhile police are investigating two deaths which occurred end of last month.

On August 31 at approximately 3:30 p.m. police were advised by Tuasivi hospital of a male who was admitted and died. The attending doctor was satisfied that an asthma attack was the cause of death. Police investigations are continuing and the matter will be referred to the coroner. 

Faleolo police on August 28 responded to a call in relation to a body found in a home at Satui-fou, Mulifanua. The police said the death appeared to be a suicide but their investigations are ongoing. 

In a separate matter the police have charged a driver with negligence driving causing injuries. On August 27 the police traffic unit responded to an accident at Moataa, where a Dyna truck registration number 28511 tried to overtake another vehicle.

A total of six people were injured, five were released from the hospital and one is in a critical condition. The driver of the Dyna truck has been charged and scheduled to appear in court on September 18.
