The Aleipata district primary schools unfolded this year’s Primary School Under-15 cricket competition last week.

The two-day tournament was held at the Samoa International Cricket Complex in Tuana’imato and was officiated by Samoa International Cricket Association.

Eight schools from the district participated in the competition, which included Lalomanu, Satitoa, Vailoa, Ulutogia, Lotopue, Saleaumua, Samusu and Ti’avea.

During the first day of the tournament, Lalomanu Primary School walked away with the top prize after a tight contest against Lotopuē Primary School.

The final day of the tournament, Friday, was the boy’s tournament.

Ti’avea claimed the first prize with Satitoa taking the second place overall.

According to the Tournament Director, Taitoe Kaisala, the tournament is the gateway to develop young talents for Samoa’s national teams in the future.

“Our tournament focuses on the development of the grassroots level, so we have started from Aleipata district this time, Lepa and Lotofaga, Siumu and Falealili, all the way around Upolu and Savai’i.

“We are focusing on covering all the designated districts around Upolu and Savai’i for this tournament.

“Another important part of this tournament is to train these young talents so that they can represent Samoa in international levels.”

The tournament will continue in the next district next week, with private schools playing next week Tuesday.
