Accounting and auditing for the community

Representatives from different non-government organisations improved their skills on accounting and auditing last week thanks to a four-day training.

Held at Samoa Umbrella of Non-Governmental Organisations (S.U.N.G.O) Vaitele office, it was attended by representatives from Samoa Social Welfare Fesoasoani Trust, GOSHEN Trust, Samoa Returnees Trust, YWCA, Matagaluega Leulumoega Youth, Saina Youth, Atina’e Tauatia’e Community, Samoa Football Association, Samatau Farmers Society and Plumbers Association in Samoa.

The training was conducted by Donald Peter Leumaga, Principal Co-ordinator from the Accounting and Auditing Firm of D.L.C Consultex and part-time Lecturer at N.U.S.

The main objectives included skills development in identifying annual accounts and why they are prepared with emphasis on what is a trial balance and where its contents come from.

Other topics covered included accrual accounting, the definition of depreciation and what causes depreciation, methods of depreciation and calculation, statements of financial performance and financial position.

Reverend Laupama Tokan Solomona, President of the Football Federation of Samoa (F.F.S), spoke on behalf of the participants to thank the trainer, S.U.N.G.O, N.U.S and the Development Partners for making this opportunity possible.

He said they are now more equipped with the key accounting and auditing skills to assist with the preparation of their organisations’ Annual Accounts and Auditing, for this financial year ending 31st June 2017.

The training was made possible with the assistance of the Samoa In Country Training Programme (S.I.C.T.P) of the Oloamanu Centre for Professional Development and Continuing Education (O.C.P.D.C.E) at N.U.S.
