The Unit Trust of Samoa (U.T.O.S.) continues to provide the people of Samoa with further returns on investment.

In a statement yesterday, U.T.O.S. declared a 10 sene dividend distribution to unitholders.

“The dividend declaration is equivalent to 10% of a Tala invested in the Fund, with the total amount expected to be paid to unitholders from this distribution is $4.68 million,” a statement from U.T.O.S. said.

“The Unit Trust has sustained the payment of dividends to Unitholders and has been doing so since June 2013.  Last year, the Trust paid out 9 sene to its unitholders. It was also 9 sene in the year before last year.

“On top of that, the unitholders has also enjoyed a 3.3% growth in the value of the unit since the beginning of the current financial year.  The main contributing factors to this growth are net capital gains from the Trust’s equity portfolio revaluation and dividends earned from shares in Bluesky Samoa Ltd and Bluesky Pacific Holdings Ltd.  This takes the total return on the unit to 9.9% so far for the current financial year.”

The dividend distribution for Unitholders was declared during the U.T.O.S. (Management) Company Board of Directors meeting last week.

Immediately after declaration,it was necessary to cease trading  for two days to protect integrity of trading process and  allow the staff to calculate the total dividend and net assets of the Trust.  Unitholders can  make a choice on whether to reinvest or cash out their dividend.

“To enhance servicing of its unitholders the Management Company has invested a lot of money in the development of the Unit Registry System (U.R.S.) that went live in February of last year.  Unitholders have been able to access their investment balance online through U.R.S. from anyhere in Samoa and around the world.

“Those Unitholders who have access online will be able to make their choice  on their dividend from the day trading recommences.  For this year, unitholders can make their choice online commencing from Thursday, 21st June 2018.

“To assist Unitholders needing assistance to access their investments online we are holding a series of 30 minute daily workshops at our office at the D.B.S. Building next week by contacting Sera Mosese on telephone 29916  and email [email protected] to register for the workshops.

The total number of active unitholders has reached 2,116 as at 20th June 2018 and total monetary value of the invested by these unitholders is $68.82 million.  The Trust has now reached total gross assets of $131.6 million and net assets of $73.04 million as at 20th June 2018.

With an eight year investment track record showing a cumulative return to Unitholders of 98.6%, the U.T.O.S.  Management Company C.E.O., Sau Justina Sau Lam, and her management team are exploring new investment opportunities not only in Samoa but also around the region to sustain the relatively attractive investment returns for U.T.O.S. Unitholders.
