A missed opportunity

Dear Editor,

Re: Manu Samoa and Wales

Excuse me I wish to take issue with the last line in this article.

“The last clash between the two was at Cardiff Stadium in Wales where Manu Samoa lost 19-26.”

Manu Samoa actually beat Wales the last time they played in 2012 in Cardiff. Faatoina Autagavaia, George Pisi and Johnny Leota scored 3 superb tries that day where Kahn Fotualii, David Lemi, Paul Williams, Taiasina Tuifua and Autagavaia were outstanding.

Our forwards in a rare sight also destroyed the Welsh scrum that night. The win was built on possession from forward dominance. Very rare for Samoa but the tight five were very good that night.

It was after this win where Samoa was ranked 7th in the world and the highest it has ever been ranked. This match also sent Wales to outside the top 8 and resulted in them being put in the same pool as England at the 2015 world cup because the world cup draw was done soon after this match finished.

Samoa had the best pool seeding for a world cup in 2015. On 2012 form, Samoa should have gone through to the quarter finals. Such a missed opportunity.
