N.U.S. campus in the pipeline for Savai’i
For so many years, the dream of many students from the Savaii has been to have a campus in Savai’i so they don’t have to come all the way to Apia, leaving their loved ones behind.
That dream may soon become a reality if plans by the National University of Samoa push through.
The plan was revealed by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Fui Asofou So’o in an interview with the Samoa Observer.
“We are looking at opening another campus in Savaii,” said Professor Fui, Vice Chancellor of the National University of Samoa.
“This will enable our students from Savaii to attend school there instead of coming all the way here. This means that they can also spend time and stay with their parents in Savaii.”
He did not elaborate further on the plan.
However, he said he is optimistic.
“With the launching of government’s project of submarine cable, this will make things easier for us.
“This means that we can have online lecturers and it will give our students in Savaii the same opportunities as our students here in Upolu.”
And, Professor Fui said the plan will echo one of our government’s favorite phrases, which is “What’s good for Upolu is also good for Savai’i.”
“We want to give the children of Savaii the same opportunities as our children here in Upolu in terms of education.”
Professor Fui said the increasing number of students each year is another reason why they are looking at opening another Campus.
“I can tell you that the numbers have been increasing each year which is why we are looking at opening another campus and improving on our services to Samoa.”
