Bluesky considers digital directory

Bluesky is considering a “digital solution” as a possible way foward for the annual Telephone Directory.

The last edition printed was for 2014-2015.

But the company is “conducting a scoping exercise to evaluate the viability” of the publication.

“The biggest challenge has been the production of printing physical copies for all users,” Bluesky Samoa’s Country Manager, Alex Abraham said in a statement issued by the company.

“We still have large quantities of the last printed copy uncollected by business and residents. A digital solution will give access countrywide to everyone.”

According to the statement, Bluesky acknowledged that they “are aware of the order by the office of the Regulator (O.O.T.R.) for the requirement to provide directory services.

“As the dominant fixed line operator, Bluesky Samoa is required to publish and provide directory services. After the last edition in 2014-15 the production of physical directories was halted due to significant cost increase to produce, and the production of physical directories not being financially viable,” the statement reads.

“Bluesky continues to offer directory services via the call centre (933) whereby over 60% of calls received is to provide directory services. This service is accessible to anyone that requires the services 24/7, 365 days a year.

“With the global trend moving towards digitalization, Bluesky is conducting a scoping exercise to evaluate the viability of this service and discuss with relevant stakeholders to find better ways to offer these services.”
