An open letter to Samoa Airways

Dear Editor

I am writing to bring to the attention of the C.E.O. especially the Board of Samoa Airways the conduct of a certain pilot working for the airline between Samoa and American Samoa.

As a former pilot for Polynesian Airlines now working in the Middle East, I am appalled by the language this pilot uses on public forum especially Facebook to demean the profession.

Another thing I take issue with is the amount of photographs this pilot takes of Apia while flying the plane. The guy also takes photographs of the passengers!

This is a privacy issue and people should sue him for having their photos put on a public forum without their consent. I find it very unprofessional when he makes ill remarks about other staff members of the Airline on Facebook.

He must realise that he represents the airline to all who meet him and will at all times keep his conduct above reproach.

I believe that as an employee of the Airline, he must give his airline, its officers, directors, and supervisors the full loyalty that is their due, and refrain from speaking ill of them on Facebook or anywhere public. He must hold the airline’s business secrets in confidence, and take care that they are not revealed.

My advice to the Board especially the C.E.O. is that this pilot must be disciplined. He must also be reminded that his own character and conduct reflect honor or dishonor upon the profession.

During our time with Polynesian Airlines, it was fundamental that we adhere the code of conduct.

I think he should go through more training to enhance his understanding about easy things because clearly he is struggling to understand the impact of the things he’s doing to the profession especially our airline.

Lately this same pilot has been putting comments on Facebook with his airline uniform discrediting other pilots which I believe is shameful not only on the profession but especially on our new Samoa Airways.

The C.E.O. and the Board should seriously look into this and do something about it.
