Faleata College King of the Ring for 2017
Faleata College has claimed the King of the Ring title at the interschool boxing competition for this year.
Promoted by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture and the Samoa Amateur Boxing Association, this is the second year of the competition.
The schools involved included Avele College, Saint Joseph’s College, Faleata College, Leifiifi College, Samoa College, Robert Louis Stevenson School, Aana No. 1 College and Wesley College.
The tournament was divided into four divisions: Juniors, Females, Youth and Elites.
Wesley College won the Juniors division while Faleata College secured the Female competition and Youth division.
Saint Joseph’s College claimed the Elite Division.
Apart from division prizes, there were also special prizes awarded to the best boxers from each division.
Etuale Ioane of Wesley College claimed the Junior Boxer of the tournament, while Koreti Ieti of Faleata College won the Female Boxer prize.
The youth boxer of the tournament went to Sauma’a Laulu of Wesley College and while Seanoa Hall of Wesley College walked away with the Elite Boxer of the tournament award.
The Overall best Boxer for the boys’ division went to Fa’aliliu Mitivao of Aana No. 1 College while the overall female best boxer went to Ivona Meuola of Wesley College.
The President of the Samoa Amateur Boxing Association, Fesola’i Va’aiga Tuigamala, hailed the tournament a huge success.
“I am excited and proud of how the tournament went this year,” he said. “I am especially pleased to achieve the goal of bringing Weightlifting and Boxing into schools.
“For the past ten weeks of trying to put together this tournament, today was the answer to all the hard work, witnessing the achievements of the students.
“We are also delighted for the fact that it wasn’t just the boxing, it was the sportsmanship all the athletes showed both inside and outside the ring; it’s something we are so fond of to continue this competition in the future.”
