The Rugby Academy Samoa (R.A.S)  U15 defeated the Australian Barbarians from Perth for the second time yesterday  22-17.

The game officially opened with the Samoan Flag raised high as the teams entered the field.  Both countries anthems were played and the respective teams beamed with pride.

Shortly after the anthem, the boys laid down their challenge with the Australian team performing a fierce haka and the R.A.S team responding with a passionate siva tau .

R.A.S scored the first try of the game, Andrew Wulf, who broke through numerous tackles to score a try.

However, this newly formed alliance isn’t just about competition but also about exposing the players to different techniques and furthering their development as young athletes.

The founder of R.A.S, Mase Mahnori Schwalger stated , “Thats the only way we can develop our kids.  I believe the development is important ,  you gotta bring teams from outside and you can learn from them and how they do things and how they play the game.

“We’ve had  these  kids for the last four –five months and we’re pretty stoked to have a game and especially having a team from Perth to play against. “

This is a learning experience for the Australian Barbarians as well . The team is multicultural with a small minority of the players being Pacific Islander and most of them have never been to Samoa before.

The Head Coach of the Barbarians, Pupuluovalomua Junior Leitaula ,  who hails from the village of Vaimoso, stated, “ It’s all about the experience, for us to learn something and hopefully they learn something from us. I guess it’s an experience for us and just to explore the beautiful Samoa.”

Overall, both teams played an excellent game of rugby and hope to make this an annual event.
