Internship programme hailed a success

To mark the end of Internship Programme Intake II 2017, the Samoa Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the ONE-UN Youth Employment Programme (Ministry for Women, Community and Social Development), held graduation ceremonies last week in Upolu and Savai’i.

The graduation ceremonies were for the interns who successfully completed the ten-week programme.

Of the 33 interns who completed the full ten-week programme, 16 from Upolu and 12 from Savai’i were offered full-time positions, with more awaiting confirmations from their employees -- work references were also provided for the interns for their CV and work experience.

Lonise Atonio, who completed her intern placement with Sheraton Samoa and is one of the successful interns who secured a full-time position, spoke on behalf of the Upolu interns.

“We are very grateful for this opportunity and throughout the ten weeks, we worked hard, not only to do well individually, but to encourage each other to complete the programme,” said Lonise.

Another intern who secured a full-time position after the programme, John Wesley Travis who worked at Vaimoana Seaside stated, “Thank you for this opportunity, it was not an easy task but we are grateful to get the experience.”

The Chamber of Commerce is grateful for all the support.

“We would like to acknowledge the following businesses for supporting this initiative to address youth unemployment as the programme would not have been possible without your assistance -- Quantum Contrax, Lototau Agency, Pacific Forum Line, Sails Restaurant, Small Business Enterprise Center, Coffee Bean Café, Apia Broadcasting, Sheraton Samoa, Business of Salafai Association, Amoa Resort, Kofe Haus, Schuster Betham Annandale Law Firm, Australia Pacific Technical College, Samoa Stationery and Books, Vaimoana Seaside Lodge, Lui’s Restaurant, Treasure House, Lisa’s Green House and Business Systems Limited.”
