The Village Mayor of Ti’avea, Tuiavi’i Poloma Eteuati, has set the record straight with regards to an incident which the Police said happened at Tiavea.

In a letter to the Ministry of Police, Tuiavi’i has asked the Police to correct their report on the matter.

“The village of Ti’avea presents this letter before the Ministry to correct what you’ve been said to the media on the 28/03/208 about the incident that killed a man,” the letter reads.

“The reports (by police) said that the incident happened at Tiavea. For your understanding, that was totally wrong."

“The location where the accident took place was at Afulilo, which is part of Lotofaga. The deceased man is also from Lotopu’e."

“The accused is from Mutiatele but stays between the boundary of the two villages of Uafato and Ti’avea.”

The Mayor said it’s important for the Police to get their information correct.

“The chiefs of Tiavea have already delivered their message to the family that they have to leave the village before the 28th this month.”

The incident in question involves the death of a young man who has been identified as Vaepa’a.

Police Media Spokesperson, Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo said information related to the Police was provided by the accused in the matter, who has already been charged with murder.

He appeared in the Supreme Court this week.

An official at the National Health Services at Moto’otua said Vaepa’a died upon arrival at the hospital.

“There were wounds on his chest up and down the left side of his body.”
