Health week launched in Neiafu, Savai’i

The number of smokers in Samoa has decreased.

This is according to the Ministry of Health Director General, Leausa Dr. Take Naseri.

He did not specify the numbers when he was pressed to elaborate.

But he makes the revelation as Samoa begins the commemoration of the National Health Week which was launched in Savai’i yesterday.

“It shows that several awareness programmes being carried out by the Ministry have deterred and  definitely warned smokers that smoking is not good for their health,” he said.

The National Health Week aims to promote and advocate healthy living.

It was launched at Neiafu, Savai’i, yesterday.

“The main idea of getting the launch out there is for the people living in rural areas to witness how important it is,” he said.

The launch kicks off a week-long programme of activities all over the country.

On Friday, all government ministries will be on half day, with a Sports day planned to promote healthy living among public servants.
