Mass kicks off school year
St. Mary’s Primary School kicked off the new school year with a mass at the Mulivai Cathedral yesterday.
Principal, Sister Masele Tenasio, said the mass is an opportunity to dedicate and commit their work to the Almighty God.
“It’s our annual Mass Service to ask God for his protection and His leadership upon each and everyone of us as we begin the year,” she said. “There’s always a strong feeling within us that we can’t go on to our normal routine this year without seeking God first. “We need His blessings upon our children, teachers and parents. Through God everything is possible.” More than hundred parents, guardians and supporters of the school attended the service.
Among them was 48-year-old mother, Fala’i Ulugia, from Vaiusu, who said the service is an excellent idea. “As a mother, I am very happy to see this,” she said. “It’s good to commit our dear children to God and show them the way to praise God for the gift of life in their lives.
“Not only that we’re taking them to school so that they could learn for a better future, we also need to teach them how to live with God everyday.” After the communion, the school prefects, house captains, and teachers were blessed.
“We strive to model and to live the Christian life by moulding and nurturing the children entrusted to our educational care with love and respect,” reads the oath the teachers took.
“We commit ourselves completely to this service to evangelize and enhance the Catholic teaching of holistic education and by living our call faithfully in the spirit of Mary our model and our patroness.”
