Mother shares family struggles
Inadequate living condition and water issues are struggles faced by Pogisa Faimasasa every day.
The 46-year-old, from the village of Lotoso’a in Sale’imoa, is a mother of five.
Mrs. Faimasasa admits her family is struggling in terms of finance.
“My husband works and my eldest daughter just started working."
“The only day we get to have money is Friday when my husband gets paid and when bill payments are made and food is bought, nothing is left."
“I also still have three children in school and most of the money goes to supporting their school activities,” she shared with the Village Voice team.
Mrs. Faimasasa also shared her health condition.
“Things have been really tough here, especially when I have severe stomach pain and my children are carrying out almost all the chores."
“So the thing I can do right now is tell the kids what to do because no matter how I want to help them, I just can’t because I am sick.”
Water supply is also a constant struggle for the family.
“We really need help for tap water supply because this has been an issue that’s affected us for so long."
“My kids collect bottles and then we use them to collect water from our neighbour who we pay to get water."
“But when it rains we just get our big gallon to collect rainwater.”
Mrs. Faimasasa also shared about their everyday life.
“We hardly have any meat here in our house; our plantation is very helpful providing us with crops to consume with tea."
“This is our everyday life, and this is how we are living in Samoa today.”
Mrs. Faimasasa says she is desperate for help because of her children.
“I really need help with our water supply and our house."
“This is not healthy for my children, but this is all we have to survive.”
