Chairman among Samoa Water Authority debtors

The $2.60 million water bill the Samoa Water Authority (S.W.A.) had requested to be written off includes debts incurred by Government Ministries, senior Government officials, schools, churches and businesses. Including in the write off list are bills allegedly incurred by the S.W.A. Board Chairman Matatauali’itia Afa Lesa, and the Associate Minister for Revenue and Prisons and Correction Services, Lenata’i Victor Tamapua among others.

Netherlands Ambassador presents credentials

The Netherlands Ambassador to Samoa, Mira Woldberg, yesterday presented her credentials to the Head of State, His Highness Tuimalealiifano Va’aletoa Sualauvi II at his residence in Vailele. Ms. Woldberg said ties between Samoa and the Kingdom of Netherlands date back to the year 1722 when Dutch explorer, Jacob Roggeveen, was the first European to set eye on the islands during his travel in the Pacific.

The National University of Samoa’s School of Medicine has added a doctor with background in forensic pathology to its teaching ranks. According to the University, Samoa does not have a medical doctor with the pathology background that the newly recruited doctor has.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were greeted by hundreds of flag-waving well-wishers on Tuesday after arriving in Fiji for a three-day visit as part of their tour of the South Pacific. School children in uniform and people of all ages lined the streets and waved both British Union Jack and Fijian flags as Prince Harry and Meghan's motorcade drove past.

For such a small country, the amount of deaths reported by the Police on a weekly basis – including crime-related deaths - is quite high. It’s disturbing. So much so you cannot help but ask the question; what is happening in Samoa today? You see gone are the days where these incidents were a rarity.

Dear Editor, I refer to the above matter, which was reported in your Sunday paper on the 14 October 2018 and also as an editorial feature on the 18th October 2018. This is to provide a response on further clarifications sought from your paper on the subject matter.

Re: Games athletes laud Samoa’s preparations I agree with where Samoa athletes can do their training while Samoa is getting ready for the Pacific Game next year. Overseas facilities can help prepare them for the Pacific Games.

Dear Editor, Re: Fairness, $2.6 million of unpaid water bills and the sacking of coach Fuimaono I applaud the Parliamentary committee too. It does show that the parliament (H.R.P.P.-dominated legislative branch) is not a rubber-stamp for the H.R.P.P.-led executive branch.
