A Samoan man alleged to have murdered a South Auckland liquor store owner lined him up with his rifle and calmly shot him, the High Court in Auckland has heard.
The court is hearing a trial of six men charged with murdering Navtej Singh, 30, who was shot on June 7, 2008 while working in his store, Riverton Liquor, in Manurewa East. He died the next day. Prosecutor Kirsten Gray told the jury that Anitele’a Chan Kee, 21, fired the shot that hit Mr Singh in the stomach.
Mr Singh was in the store with business partner Gurwinder Singh. Chan Kee entered the liquor store with the .22 rifle at the ready.
“From that moment onward he had his finger on the trigger and he tracked one of the two men,” Ms Gray said. “In a calm and controlled manner he
lined up Navtej Singh and pulled the trigger.”
Chan Kee is facing the murder and robbery charges with Myron Robert Felise, 22, Jason Naseri, 21, Tino Faamele Felise, 21, Eti Filoa, 25, and Walter McCarthy, 19.
Charged with being armed with an offensive weapon and robbing Singh and Gurwinder Singh are Tino Felise, Eti Filoa and Walter McCarthy. They are alleged to have stolen alcohol, pre-paid telephone cards and cash.
Mefiposeta Chan Kee, 26, is charged with tampering with evidence. He is the brother of Anitilea. The indictment says he is accused of breaking down and disposing of the rifle, disposing of the shop till, alcohol packaging and clothing.
The trial, before Justice Graham Lang and a jury, is expected to last six weeks with 56 Crown witnesses. – NZPA Back
