So much has been written about the violence in Samoa, and usually we hear writers say it is the youth and young untitled men that continue to dish out to the community these terrible behaviours and tragic incidents.
But have we ever looked more closely also at the media and the courts, and noticed that a good number of these trouble makers and perpetrators of these unfortunate situations are matai and title holders?
What in the world are matai involved in such unbecoming behaviour in our community?
I certainly believe if the Alii and Faipule and Matai are strong, meaning they themselves set the example of good citizen thoughts and behaviour, then we would greatly reduce these unfortunate incidents in our villages and community.
So yes, revive and reinforce the role of Alii and Faipule, and live the law themselves 24 hours a day and not just on the roads each night for a few hours for curfew purposes.
Manuia le vaiaso o totoe Samoa.
