Marist Saints has dedicated their Rugby League 9s success to all their supporters.

The team went through challenges and obstacles throughout their NRL 9s journey but they are grateful for the support.

The Matson Toa Gas Rugby League 9s first season kicked off this year with Marist Saints the reigning Champions after winning four legs out of five.

Marist Saints Head Coach is Lemalu John Lemisio.

According to Marist Manager, Unasa Tauheia Levaai, the team had prepared for the unexpected.

“It was really hard starting from the first leg given some of our key players were involved in the Super Nine that was also on at the same time,” he said.

“So it was a big assignment for us the management trying to develop our new players to bridge the gap. We just remained humble and trusted our players.”

He told the Samoa Observer, the Marist Saints team management had to analyze all the teams.

“We analyzed every single team in the tournament and tried to work on a plan to counter each team.”

Marist Saints could not have done it without their supporters though.

“The main sponsor behind the scene was Gisborne Funeral Services other people were also donate money was Vui Ricky Mc Fall, Tagaloa Faafouina Sua and Lemalu Lemisio.”

“We would also like to acknowledge the support from our Marist Sports Club Committee for allowing us to use the club facilities.”

“Last but not the least we would like to thank Rugby League Samoa President Afioga Tagaloa Faafouina Sua, the one and only Board Member afioga Taefu Salapu and the Rugby League Samoa for a clear vision and being proactive by having this first ever 9 side tournament in the history Rugby League in Samoa where Gisborne Maris Saints was able to seal four leg and become the first ever Championship in the overall.”

“We also like to express our sincere thanks to the major sponsor of the Tournament, Matson Toa Gas.”

“Special thanks to the Management of Toa Gas as well as the support of our friends, families especially our wives and kids for the great support that was given to us.”

The Marist Saints are also excited that their recent performances contributed to their Marist International Games next year.

This tournament was part of our preparation for Marist International Games early next year 2018 where all games will be used as a platform for our South Pacific Games that will host by Samoa.
