The Director of the Catholic Schools, Aeau Chris Hazelman was vocal in his disappointment last week during the Education Sector Mid -Term Review.

Held at the Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi building, Aeau spoke out about the noticeable absence of teachers and many of the principals during the conference.

Aeau said that the most important people who are supposed to be present during this review are the teachers; however he could see no teachers there.

“I feel very disappointed today because when I look around in here these are the same faces that I see in these kinds of meetings,” he said.

“These are the same people I see every time we have meetings like this.

“But the most important people, who are supposed to be here to listen and participate in this conference, the teachers; they are not here.

“They are the people who know what is actually happening but they are not here.

“Where are our teachers?

“Where are our principals? Yes I see some of the principals here but most of the principals from the town area are not here.”

Aeau went on to say that if the Education sector wants to move forward, they need the people who are implementing at such gatherings.

“If you want the sector to move forward it has to be owned by the people who are going to be initiating or implementing these reforms,” he said.

However the C.E.O. of the Ministry of Education Dr. Karoline Afamasaga-Fuatai said they had sent out invitations to all the teachers to participate in this review.

“We have given out invitations starting from teachers from Primary Schools up to Secondary Schools,” she said.

“However we don’t know their reasons for not being here,” she admitted.
