Samoa Sports lotto presented $5,000 to the Samoa Tag Incorporated for their first international Teuila tag tournament to be held on Teuila week from September 5-7 in Apia.

Thirty-eight teams comprising men, women, mix and masters will be competing against each other and 10 of these 38 teams are from New Zealand and Australia.

Samoa Sports Lotto C.E.O., Tuala Tamaalelagi Siaki Tuala said the participation of international teams benefits the economy and they hope to assist the development of rugby tag in Samoa.

Tuala pointed out the importance of attracting tourists to the Teuila Festival week because it is a cultural festival that includes sporting activities.

“In regards to the applications by sporting board of which Samoa Tag Incorporated is one, they have strict requirements, which includes being properly equipped, have ordered accounts, a budget and a calendar to ensure the proper running of the event.”

Tag rugby, a non-contact, fast moving game suitable for all ages was launched in Samoa in October 2017, and over the past six months, Samoa Tag Incorporated re-formed the clubs and employers because of the growing interest.

President of the Samoa Tag Incorporated Faaofonuu JP Leota expressed his appreciation and the importance of support by the Samoa Sports Lotto.

Faaofonuu said the game is also good for the general health of the people because it includes men, women and the master grade, which comprises people who are 35 years old and above.
