Re: Interplast medical team
Impressive! They mentioned in the article that most of their patients are from the rural area of Samoa, which is great! I’m concerned about those that fall through the cracks and maybe the severe cases of these conditions and are not aware.
Ministry of health should enforce those clinics in the village. I received all my childhood immunization there while growing up.
I noticed they no longer exist. They can provide immunization, preventive health as in eating healthy , losing weight, exercise, teaching people CPR, how to clean wounds and take temperature and many more.
From these clinics the leading doctor can recommend those who are qualified by the seriousness of their condition and the nurse supervisor can start this list and have it ready for different specialist when they come to provide this free service.
I was in Samoa in February 2018 and I saw the news for this service in my village. I was visiting my parents and helping my brother who I help start his dialysis in USA and he wanted to go to Samoa. I connected the doctors here in USA with NFKS foundation to make they can accommodate my brothers dialysis when he visit.
Shortly after he left I flew there to follow up. I had a short conversation with one of the doctors and I asked for a hematologist to follow up with my brothers other condition (blood condition) and she said that they are short 140 doctors. She informed me that in two weeks hematologist from New Zealand will be visiting and my brother can see one of them. My brother returned to the U.S.A because he was too sick to wait. He was better of returning sooner than waiting.
We need a lot of help with our hospitals. We lack a lot of specialists, doctors and nurses. We need to invest in our children by gearing them in this career direction. We will always need people to take care of people. Just my little two sene.
