AGANU’U SAMOA

By Jackie Fa’asisila 31 July 2016, 12:00AM

Samoans are strong, proud and noble

Rooted firmly in tradition

Defined by a culture and its values

That flows like blood through

The veins of generations

Guarding collective heritage

And cultural memory

Culture is a glue that holds community together

Safeguards language and thought

Maintains ways of life and attitudes

That shape the world and those who are in it

Culture provides a framework

On which to hang

A way of life and thought

That nourishes the spirit

And feeds the imagination

Yet culture forever grows and changes

Like a tree whose roots continue to spread

Whose branches reach out to shelter

And nourish young and old alike

Defining each of them in turn
