Life is full of challenges and difficulties.

So says Ionatana Gali from the village of Toamua-uta and Falefa.

Aged 43, Ionatana believes he is on the right path.

“It’s been great, I feel like moving here to Toamua has lifted a huge weight off my shoulders,” he said.

“Don’t get me wrong, life at Falefa was great but having a lot of people who were all staying together makes it hard for me and my family to get our own privacy or any time alone with each other.”

“It was too crowded so that’s why I was thankful when my mom called that her sister who used to stay in this land was moving away and she needed someone to take care and look after things around here so I’ve decided this was our time.”

“So now we’re here, with my wife and our four children, trying to develop this land the best we can.”

Ionatana said living at Toamua has its own advantages.

“It’s peaceful here and it’s closer to Samoa Ports Authority, which is where I work.”

“ It saves me a lot of money when it comes to fares.”

“So far, we have grown bananas and eggplants in our plantation and we sell them sometimes to get extra money.”

“We’ve already paid for our water and electricity to be set up so it’s only a matter of waiting; I know it takes time for these things to happen, so probably any day this week our water will be ready.”

“We still feel as new people to this neighborhood and it’s not much but I’m happy that my family has finally has a place of their own to start from.”
