Escaped prisoners deny charge

Two prisoners, charged with attempted murder against a Chinese businessman, Kuan Hui San, appeared in court again yesterday. 

Lauitiiti Tualima and Filipo Pesamino appeared before Chief Justice, His Honour Patu Tiava’asue Falefatu Sapolu. 

The pair face charges of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, breaking and entering as well as theft. They have pleaded guilty to all the charges except attempted murder.

Lawyer, Leone Su’a, confirmed to the court yesterday that the prosecution would proceed on the attempted murder charge.

The court accepts the application, the matter is being set down for a two-day hearing on the 9th and 10th March 2017.

Tualima is a prisoner at Tafaigata prison and he is serving 29 years in prison while Filipo Pesamino is serving a jail term until 2021.
