The Sā Tuala family welcomed nine new matai titleholders last Saturday during a colorful and elaborate ceremony at the family residence at Letufu.

The titles conferred included Galumalemana and Leaupepetele.

High Chiefs of the family blessed the new titleholders and reminded them that matai titles are all about serving others.

Family member and new titleholder, Leaupepetele Pale Leaupepetele, said it was an exciting event and the beginning of a new chapter for the family.

“Samoa is meant to be governed by matais with love and respect,” Leaupepetele said.

“A matai is not just a leader, you have to serve our family and those around you, and it’s not an easy task, but with God, everything is possible.”

“I am ready to serve my family.”

The ceremony ended with traditional formalities.
