Life experience for Auckland family

Selina Holland has found Samoa the perfect destination to start the New Year.

It was not the beautiful scenery that she admired, it was the simple way of life that she witnessed with the Samoan people and she wanted her daughters to understand how fortunate they are.

The mother of two has only been here for seven days and she said that back home in Auckland, New Zealand, the children’s way of life is very different compared to Samoa. Bringing her kids here has been the highlight of her trip.

“Back home the kids are always on their phones, iPad’s and computers, but unlike here, you see everyone playing and being together. Just seeing the families together is just really nice to see.

“Being here I want my girls to understand how lucky they are with the life that they have and to learn something from this experience,” she said.

Witnessing how everyone works together in doing chores even during this season of celebration made the 43-year-old realize the difference from home.

“When we were driving from the airport, everyone was mowing their lawn and cleaning their houses and that is totally different from Auckland, I know our houses are nice and that, but this is different, it is just a bit spoiled over there,” she added.

Samoa did not just broaden her view, but she said being here is the ideal place to relax and spend time with loved ones.

She is here with her parents and she said spending Christmas together in Samoa has been a definite great quality time for them.

“Seeing as we live separately from my parents even though that they usually come over to house and see us, it is even better that we always get to travel together and we never want to be apart on Christmas day.”

They are currently staying at the Taumeasina Island Resort and we were able to catch a glimpse of what Samoa looks like and some scenery that they really enjoyed.

“We were able to have a look at Robert Louis Museum and my father was really interested. It is just unbelievable and the house was just nice.

“Not only that but the fire dancing at the resort was just fantastic and the kids loved it.”

She is excited to try out the umu before leaving for their homeland.
