With the Christmas holiday still in effect, it's clearly a time to relax and be merry.
That's for some people.
Not everyone has the privilege.
Many people are still hard at work, having only been given one or two days off.
Sapani Pomare is one of them. He sees working during the holidays as an opportunity.
He believes that hard work and determination will always pay off, and that those two traits will not only benefit you in the short run, but it will definitely open more doors in the future.
So working during the holiday doesn’t impact him in any way.
“As a driver, I’m usually on call at random times every day, all year round,” he told Samoa Observer.
“I knew I wasn’t going to take a break like the rest of Samoa this Christmas season but that doesn’t mean anything to me.
“The way I see it, an extra day at work will definitely put my mind at ease because as the man of the house, I must provide for my family.”
He added that he was actually delighted to work throughout the Christmas holiday as it kept his Christmas spirit alive in a way.
“I usually work on holidays but Christmas is my favorite time to work” he said. “When you drive for a living, you get to meet new people everywhere you go”
“So Christmas is always a joy because I get countless people wishing me a merry Christmas”
Another person who showed no sign of remorse when asked about working during the Christmas holiday was Billi. L of the Kooline Company.
His team was in charge of fixing the T.A.T.T.E building's electrical problems before the employees return from their well-deserved break.
“We are working today because our company requested for our assistance,” he said.
“Although this is still a holiday, I’m still very happy to do my job for the community.
“Nothing gives me greater joy than to know I’ve done something to benefit others this Christmas season.”
There is also money to be made.
“Working today would definitely create a better name for my company.” he said.
“But the main reason I’m doing this is for my family.
“They deserve to always have food on the table and shelter over their heads.
“So whatever my company needs, I will execute it with pleasure.”
What an attitude to have. Bring on 2017.
