Good governance makes a village

Quality leadership from the matai and unity build a good village.

So believes 60 year old Pese Vaiala, of Tafitoala, Safata.

“I’ve always been a believer in everything that a village does,” Pese said.

“Because I know with everything they do; it’s always for the betterment of families in our village.”

“With the village council and its governance, that holds everyone together and it has a good impact on the people.”

According to Pese; this is an advantage that urban villages are missing out on.

“I understand it is called the town areas because it’s always busy with people going to work, cars passing by and where businesses are mainly based but with that; you can never find peace in that kind of location.”

“People can freely do whatever they want but if you take a walk in the villages; you see that everything we do is always for something good,” he said.

Pese told the Village Voice, the Village Council are a group of wise men who are always busy cooking up how to assist in the village affairs, and especially maintaining peace in the village.

“If we are not working to develop something; we are working to make a difference in the lives of many especially our youth generation.”

“A good Village Council always looks out for families because they care about their people and that is why I think that this is something that must be emphasized in both rural and urban villages.”

“We are so used to believing that our youth is our future and yet we don’t even know what methods we need to help and direct their lives.”

“It starts from a good governing of Chiefs within every village and they will make sure to lead the youth to the right path.”

“This can make everything a whole lot better for all of us in Samoa.”

“We reach out so far for help when the cure we need for our country is right in front of us, our Village Council,” said Pese.
