“Serving my family will always be priority number one.”

That’s Mona Taula, 19, of Luatuanu’u’s commitment.

“As you can see, I just came from our farm with my friend here and this is what we do regularly, every day,” he said. “We go out to gathering woods and work on the plantation.”

Mona also has banana patch.

He said this keeps him busy and it earns them enough money.

“I believe that working at the plantation as a farmer is no different from working a regular job because both paths can contribute to taking care of our families,” he said.

“That is my own belief for now, but who knows what the future holds… maybe the future will tell its own different story

“For now, I’m still enjoying living life at home, doing chores then going to the plantation… it’s better than being employed by someone else.”

Mona said it gives him the greatest joy to see his parents happy.

“I also want a family of my own but not now, God will show me the right time.

“For now, my priority is my parents. I don’t want to waste my time on things that are not useful .

“Staying home and serving my family to the best of my ability is my goal.”

Asked about the state of their village, Mona said everything is fine.

“We have a very good Village Council and they work together with the help of our church ministers.”

Mona is from a family of nine.

“There are six of us boys with one sister and she’s the oldest, so for that reason we boys do all the chores.”
