Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi and Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Masakazu Hamachi signed the exchange of notes for the Pacific Climate Change Centre Project under Japan’s Grant Aid Assistance yesterday.

Mr. Hamachi said the signing is a key development for Samoa and the Pacific countries.

“I am pleased to attend this signing ceremony with you as a representative of the Japanese Government for the project of the construction of the Pacific Climate Change Centre,” he said.

“This project is to construct the Pacific Climate Change Centre at S.P.R.E.P by Japan’s grant of 962 million yen with the view to strengthen measure against climate change.

“Samoa is where S.P.R.E.P is located. It plays an important role in the sustainable development such as hosting the 3rd international conference of small islands developing states two years ago.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa expressed his deepest appreciation to the government of Japan for the support.

“I want to express my very deep appreciation to the minister for leading the trade team from Japan for discussions with our own exporters in effort to build up a trade between our private sector and Japan,” he said.

“[And] the opportunity has also been taken to execute this agreement.

“This will have immense benefit for all the countries of the south Pacific.”
