The Deputy Registrar of the Ministry of Justice and Courts Administration, Victory Lesa, has been arrested and charged by the police for allegedly removing a gun from a court exhibit.

The M.J.C.A. Assistant C.E.O., Ve’atauia Fa’atasi Puleiata said this yesterday when responding to questions from the Weekend Observer.

“The matter has been handed over to the police and that is all I can say. He’s been charged with theft as servant because the gun belongs to the court. There is no one above the law so it is what it is but he is (in) custody at the moment until the 9th of July,” he said.

The gun in question was an exhibit in the court hearing of a police officer in the district court. But it went missing last year while in the custody of the court, compelling the Minister Minister of Justice and Courts Administration, Faaolesa Katopau Ainuu to recently express concern.

“Evidence going missing under my watch concerns me, especially when something like that happens. That is why I referred the matter to the police due to its seriousness,” he said at the time.
