Fun for all the family

Samoa is known for its safe and welcoming nature, making it the ideal choice for group family holidays.

Faith Marshall, aged 69, and her young grandson Xavier Delport, aged 8, have come to Samoa with Faith’s brother Richard Millett, aged 68, and his wife Trixie, aged 65, to name but a few of the group.

In total, ten members of the family have travelled together to Samoa from New Zealand.

However, the family has its roots in American Samoa.

Having not been to the Island in over 24 years, Richard and Trixie were excited to come back and see how the local environment has changed.

Luckily they still find it to be paradise.

“It’s much cleaner than American Samoa,” the couple agree that Upolu is the preferable island due to its cleanliness and friendly atmosphere.

Their daughter, who grew up on the Pacific islands has kept returning and encouraging her parents to coming back to the tropical Island with the rest of the family in toe.

They have just moved over to the Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel in Central Apia.

However, they spent the first few days of their trip at Le Uaina Beach Resort on the East Coast.

So far this has been the highlight of their stay. The resort was recently awarded the Trip Advisor’s Certificate of Excellence 2017. It boasts a collection of villas hidden away in a little cove, as well as snorkelling, quality fresh food and staff proud of their excellent hospitality.

The resort is also known for the care taken in building it.

Local builder Schwarz Hunt grew up on the East coast and as a boy he loved exploring the land. He built the resort with the environment in mind, as he constructed it around a gorgeous Talie tree, which stands in the middle of the deck.

Having hired a van, the family drove around and despite heavy rains, still had a lovely time absorbing the views. The Marine Reserve also placed highly in the family’s opinions. Only a five minute walk from the capital, the reserve is home to a diverse range of sea life. Perfect for snorkelling, it serves as the ideal family day out.

Faith particularly enjoyed the Cultural Village Show, where she was able to see how local goods are made. “I bought my lavalava there, it was nice to see them being made, and it wasn’t particularly expensive.”

“I would recommend it, I’m going to tell my daughter to come now. She’s part Samoan and she’s never been.” Faith is now a strong advocate of Samoa and plans to spread the word back home!
