British rugby league team Salford has apologized for the behavior of its fans after violence erupted in the stands following a Super League game against Huddersfield.

Images emerged on social media showing two Salford players — Justin Carney and Junior S'au — involved in heated exchanges with supporters, with S'au appearing to restrain a fan on the ground.

Salford head coach Ian Watson said players had been concerned about the welfare of their children, who were reportedly sitting close to where crowd trouble took place on Monday.

Salford owner Marwan Koukash said "we will work closely with (Huddersfield) Giants and the Rugby Football League in our investigation and this minority of thugs responsible will be identified and dealt with."

The RFL says it will undertake an investigation.
