Niupisia Ta’aluava’a, from Falelauniu, is in desperate need for help.

The father of nine and grandfather lost his wife a few years back and since then life has been tough for him and his family.

“In our family right now, it’s  only me and my two children because their mother passed away two years ago,” the 66-year-old man said yesterday.

“All of my nine children have already married and have moved with their own families and only two daughters and their husbands still live with me.

“It is very difficult because none of my kids who live with me have regular jobs because they have just moved here from Savai’i.”

Mr. Ta’aluava’a was on his way home after his work yesterday when the Village Voice team met him.

“We have been living here for 10 years now and it’s a real struggle, especially with no one working to support our family.

“It is also not great because we don’t have much land around in our area that can help us grow crops.

“Sometimes our church minister just gives us money to support our family because we are poor.

“Right now I just got back from a contract mowing a lawn at Lalovaea and I just started working there today (yesterday) just to support my family,” he shared.

Mr. Ta’aluava’a says since the passing of his wife, life has been hard.

“Since my wife passed away, our family was not the same anymore; my kids started having their own families at young ages.

“The voice of their mother in decision making matters was sorely missed and up to now we are still missing it.”

Mr. Ta’aluava’a says he is in desperate need of assistance, especially with getting jobs for his two daughters.

“It is really hard right now because we have to support my grandchildren because school has started again.

“Put simply, our family is in real need of financial assistance,” he added.
