Watermelons fly in style

What do you do with empty seats on an airline bound for Samoa?

Well if you are a Tongan Airline, in this case Real Tonga, you will fill them up with watermelons and make sure you strap them in.

On a flight to Samoa last week, pictures posted on social media showed half the plane filled with watermelons.

One Llane Munau wrote on Facebook: “ONLY IN TONGA... The reason why we were one hour late to get to Apia via Vava'u Island… Because we got on a new international route (opened only 10 days ago) for Real Tonga Airlines. They had to seat the watermelons on the passengers seats, and also put seatbelts on them.”

The pictures have gone viral with the reaction mostly hilarious and positive.

“Great way to utilise the seats if they're available,” one said. “Good on Real Tonga!”

Another one said: “Lucky watermelons are flying first class...this should go down in history.”
