The rain did not dampen the spirits of Lei’ataua Mulipola Auapaau who celebrated his 90th birthday yesterday.

Born on 12 April 1925, his children had postponed the celebration of his birthday so that they could all be home for the special occasion.

And yesterday, there was nothing that could have stopped the party.

Even the bad weather was not an obstacle.

Lei’ataua’s eldest son, Mulipola Punaotala Auapaau, told the Samoa Observer that their father is a loving and hardworking man.

“Our father is the kind of man that loves his family very much,” said Mulipola.

“All he wants is for his family to be in unity and have one heart to do everything.

“He is the same to us his children. Today we are very blessed to celebrate with our father and to witness the love of God upon him.”

Mulipola said their father has been through some tough challenges. One of them was the death of his wife, Fiapaipai Pesaleli, who passed away in 1991.

“When our mother passed away in 1991, it was very hard for him because they were inseparable.

“They loved each other very much and so when she passed away, he really missed his best friend.”

At one time, Lei’ataua had to be sent away for treatment.

“There was also a time when he got a heart problem and he was sent to Hawaii to stay with our other brother and do his check up.

“However, we are very thankful to God for his love, protection and especially His healing upon our father.”

Lei’ataua has eight children, 24 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Most of them were present during the celebration yesterday.
