Life is a choice

Dear Editor,

Re: Letter from Hawaii: Samoa deserves better

Merry Xmas to you! There is no comparison between Samoa and Hawaii.

I can only speak from my own experience in the States.

I’ve lived in the States for 16 years now... I have two jobs since I got here. (I loved it).

I was a fulltime student and a full time employee at the same time.

I graduated with my B.S. & M.S. and am a Phd Candidate; and also volunteering for homeless shelters during holidays.

I’d never dream or thinking about living on a government benefits. Being homeless and living on a government benefits is a CHOICE!

The government benefit is a temp help from the government, until you can get on your feet.

But, I know a lot of Samoans living in the US who depend on those benefits. The question is why? If you can work - get a job!

There are a lot of homeless Samoan kids in California (drugs and crimes). Hawaii is a land of opportunity --- you choose to live your life the way you want!

I wish you all the best and hope you will be able to provide a steady home for your kids.
