Rejoice Viliamu, 23-year-old mother knows the feeling of living without water.

“Not having water makes things more challenging especially when you have a kid to look after,” she said.

For Rejoice, she has been living with her husband without water since 2014.

“It has been four years of living hell as far as water is goes,” se said.

“Fetching water is the hardest part because almost all people around our neighborhood suffer the same situation.

“None of us have access to water. And the government water does not reach the area where we are staying.”

Rejoice added that her family can handle most things except having no water.

“It’s hard,” she said. “We need water for  drinking; eating, bathing … because water is for our everyday necessities.”

So how do they access water now?

“When we run out of water, we contact the village truck to deliver us water and its $100 per round. The truck fills in all our eight gallons with water for one day.

“So we have to make sure the water lasts for as long as it can. That means sacrificing some things.”

The 23-year-old said their long term goal is to be connected to the government’s water supply.

“I know it’s not my place to tell the government what they should do but I humbly ask if they can consider our plight.

“For the future of my children I pray that my plea for water will get answered someday.”
