It takes two to make a relationship work

The goal in any relationship is not to think alike, but to work and think together.

That is Rosita Tau’aina’s motto in her marriage.

Rosita is a 28-year-old mother from Toamua and Puipa’a who was approached by the Village Voice yesterday when she was selling niu with a smile on her face, just on the side of the road.

“What I’m happy about and thankful for is my family; I have a supportive husband and two amazing children; one attending Saina school and my baby,” she said.

While Rosita plays the role of taking care of the kids at home most of the time, her husband is fisherman and a hardworking one at that; making money for the family.

“But you know it would’ve been a hard life for me if I didn’t have someone to go through everything with; like my husband.

“You know we sell different things to get money so this is our own spot to sell our things for money because it’s right across from his family’s house.

“So I came yesterday and now today, to sell these nius but my husband is the one who’s always here, selling his fish.

“Because I didn’t have anything else to do and I just thought of doing this to make some money to help out our family as well.

“My husband thought it was a very good idea because he needed a rest, you know for a few days.

“So I earned $80 from my nius yesterday and you caught me here right when I just finished setting up; so I have only $4 so far from four nius.

“For us as husband and wife, it is important that we prioritize our children because we are all they have for a good life.

“And that’s why no matter how much I want to work; I have to think about my children, you know they need their parents with them all the time because they’re still young.

“My husband and I always talk about our plans before we push through with anything because we need to hear what the other has to say or what we’re both thinking.

“That’s how married life is because you’re a team. You don’t get to decide anything on your own anymore.”
