Ten keen and enthusiastic chefs are ready for the workforce after completing a 12-week course courtesy of the Samoa Culinary Association (S.C.A.).
The students graduated during a ceremony at Tanoa Tusitala Hotel on Saturday night where families and friends gathered to celebrate.
The 12-week course started from the first of March and ended on the third week of May. The 2018 Grassroots Cookery programme aims to address unemployment in Samoa by producing successful participants at the end of the programme armed with skills to find work.
S.C.A President Chef Joe Lam said the association started the programme due to two concerning factors.
“One is the high unemployment rate in Samoa and the other is that within the rate are a higher number of unemployed youths. The kids are the future, if you teach them well; they will be guided for life,” he said.
