In the sport of boxing, complete focus and discipline is a must, especially when one uncalculated move could leave you on the floor.
And with utmost discipline and focus, Henry Tyrell and Nu’uuli Mose overpowered all opponents put before them at the Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu and secured another two gold medals for Samoa.
In an interview with the Samoa Observer, Samoa’s golden boxers expressed how excited and happy they were to be able to make their nation proud.
They added all they achieved was with the help of God.
“Right now, all we are feeling is happiness in our achievement,” they said.
“We thank God for always being with us while we were in Vanuatu and making it possible for us to accomplish these gold medals.”
“It’s a strong belief for us that without God, nothing is possible and we have also been blessed by his hand during our training and competition we take part in.”
The golden boys both agreed that this achievement is another step forward for Samoa in the name of boxing.
“For us, this is a way forward for the sport of boxing,” they said.
“Developing the sport is very important to us and now that people can see that we can achieve anything with the help of God, they will start joining us too and boxing will grow.”
“These medals signify our people’s ability to overcome anything if our minds and attitudes are right. We are also happy to be able to make the nation proud by becoming gold medalist.”
Asked what went through their mind as they competed and triumphed, the boxing duo said their family and their supporters.
They added their accomplishment is for all those who supported them.
“We dedicate these medals to the nation of Samoa as well as our families,” they said.
“We could not have done this or train as hard without the support of everyone, especially our family. They motivate us to go further than what we believe we can do.”
“As mentioned before, we also dedicate this medal to God for his help in getting us this far.”
So where to now for the Samoa’s boxing golden boys?
They said they will aim for bigger tournaments with their eyes fixed on gold.
“Well, our plan is to continue to train harder than ever,” they said.
“Now that we have achieved these gold medals at the Mini Games, our eyes are on much bigger competitions and winning gold yet again.”
“This is not the end of our journey and we will continue to work as hard as possible to further develop boxing in Samoa.”
“We would like to thank all of our supporters for their encouragement and as well as the management team who are always working hard in the background.”
“We will continue to make you all proud with our boxing.”
