We have to start from somewhere.
Atu Pologa, 25, of Afega and Leulumoega believes every great thing starts from a small idea.
“My family has always been into farming; we have a variety of vegetables; tomatoes, cabbages, cucumbers and pumpkins,” he told the Village Voice team.
“Now I help out in this; so we have a stall at the Ah Liki market at Taufusi and there are six of us who work together everyday to put everything in place.”
Atu is the youngest of nine siblings and he’s the fifth child.
He teams up with his five other brothers and while they are responsible for growing and planting vegetables; the other members of the family work in selling it to people.
“It is a tough competition in the markets since a lot of people have become good in this kind of business but thankfully we have regular customers calling in and placing orders on what they want.”
“For example; we even supply cabbages for Farmer Joe’s Wholesale and a few other families everyday.”
“We only have a small patch that we are trying to fit everything in but honestly we love what we do and we try our best to continue it for our family in the future.”
“Besides working like this to get money to support our family and parents; I’d like to think that this is an experience that keeps me away from being dragged into the different influences that our youth are under.”
“Right now we are not hundred percent, I know we will grow in this business and hopefully when we become more successful in the future; we get to save enough so my brothers and I can build a new home for our family.”
