The Faleata Knights has received much-needed help to aid their bid to win the Super 9 Rugby Championship.

They have signed up Sleepwell International Ltd as their major sponsor. Prior to the ceremony on Friday, the franchise did not have a sponsor.

The President of Apia West Rugby Union, Aiono Tony Taeleipu Aiono, said they are extremely grateful because they weren’t finding much luck in looking for a sponsor.

“However, Sleepwell heard of our plight and therefore came on board to be our major sponsor and for that we are very grateful.”

Sleepwell International Ltd is a newly registered Samoan company. It is owned by the Lutu brothers, Salā Geroge and David Lutu who own a bed factory called Sleepwell NZ Ltd. They work closely with Samoa Stationery and Books (S.S.A.B).

According to Salā the whole purpose of the sponsorship is to support the development of rugby in Samoa.

“As we all know the current situation of rugby in Samoa so we wanted to come on board and help in any way we can,” he said. “So the sponsorship includes the uniforms and it will depend on how well the team performs in order for the sponsorship to continue.

“This is the mandate of Sleepwell International. We try to help the community as well as the people of Samoa. [And] even though our factory here in Samoa has not yet opened, Sleepwell International Ltd wants to contribute to our community.

“We are located within the Faleata District so it is fitting that we sponsor the Faleata Knights and who knows, maybe some of our Knights players will end up playing for the Manu Samoa in the future.”

President of S.S.A.B. Fiti Leung Wai added that their partnership with the Lutu Brothers is very strong because they share the same beliefs and values, especially in being good corporate citizens.

“Sponsoring our rugby teams at the grass root level are very important for youth development and if we want to have a strong national team in the future,” she said.

“We are also the major sponsor for the Moamoa Roosters rugby and soccer team.”

The team is being coached by Taveuveu Simanu Simanu with the assistance of Authur Lesa and Lotu Tulaga.
