Inland resident’s water plea

Ioane Le’ana is among a minority group of people in Samoa.

The 49-year-old from Faleasi’u does not have access to clean drinking water.

While he said life is okay, he is sad because he doesn’t have water.

“I’ve been staying in this area for quite a while now and there are no major problems here,” he told the Village Voice.

“I moved here because my sister’s place was too crowded and I could never get any peace of mind there.

“I know we all come to a point where we just want to be alone for our own good right?

“I mean despite the fact that my home is far away from the inner village, I still manage on my own but the only thing I need help with is a water tank that I can use to store my water.

“As you can see, I have no way of getting water here because the government’s water system does not reach up to here so I always go and fetch water from my sister’s place.

“When it comes to food, I always make use of the plantation but when I feel like eating a nice meal sometimes, then I just head down to my sisters place.

“But I like it here; it’s peaceful and I like having my own space but a water tank and a few tarpaulins to cover my home would be helpful.

“And I know a water tank would help me make my situation easier instead of getting water from faraway places.

“This is not a hard life but having no water makes it a bit hard for me because this is a basic need.

“You might be wondering why don’t I just get these things myself but to be honest, I don’t have a job to depend on except for the plantation.

“Sometimes I just collect whatever bottle I can find on the road to get a bit of money and that’s it.

“So I would appreciate any help given in my situation.”
