The man accused over the death of a mother and her son in Savai’i when he crashed into a vehicle they were travelling in will find out his sentence this Thursday. 

The decision was postponed from last night.

Sinei Aunei, 42, of Iva and Neiafu, has pleaded guilty to two charges of motor manslaughter.

He is represented by lawyer Leota Tima Leavai while the Prosecutor is Leone Su’a - Mailo of the Attorney General’s Office.

Justice Mata Keli Tuatagaloa is presiding.

When the matter was before Court last week, Leota informed the Court that she was not ready to proceed with the sentencing.

“I am not ready to proceed as I have just received this morning the probation services report and have yet to confirm this with the defendant,” Leota told the court.

“And I have also just received on Saturday night the sentencing memorandum from the prosecution so I need time to go through it as you know your honor the seriousness of the charges against the defendant.”

Justice Tuatagaloa then granted the application made by defense counsel and adjourned for Thursday 31 August for sentencing.

 “This will be the last adjournment of this matter.”

The defendant is being charged with two charges of motor manslaughter.
