He’s one proud villager

Samoa is known for its tropical weather, beautiful beaches around the island and the many different villages.

For 29 year old Malaeola Alama, of Vailoa, Aleipata, he is mighty proud of his village.

He said many people can learn and benefit from Vailoa.

He believes that the beautiful beaches and the different resorts based in his village are one of the reasons why tourists and people from overseas keep  coming back for more.

“I think everybody knows that we have the best beaches in Samoa,” he said to the Village Voice team.

“It’s true there’s only a few tourists at the beach fales right now but it’s just a slow month, it doesn’t mean it’s bad business.

“Sometimes it depends on people and the kind of gathering they do, for example it gets really packed when families come over for reunions or maybe a wedding.

“Basically our busiest month is December and other special holidays such as New Years, Mothers Day, White Sunday and all that; these are the kind of days that people would feel the need to get away from all the hassle and just enjoy themselves here at the beaches.”

Malaeola said there is no need for anyone to worry when they come over because his village really takes good care of their customers.

“Our village and beaches are safe because we have rules here established by the village council and also our untitled men’s main duty is to protect the people coming into our village especially our tourists, from anything or anyone and avoid anything bad happening.”

Malaeola went on to say that another good thing about their beach fale businesses is that it creates work opportunities for people; especially for the people residing in the village.

“For example, Faofao Beach Fale has employed more than fifteen people from here, which is good because there’s barely any jobs out there in the workforce.

“So everything in our village is going well.

“Our people are friendly and welcoming.

“I honestly think we have improved and have come a long way.”
