Sky Frankhauser and Joey Brand of Utah, U.S.A, are part of a visiting Humanitarian group.

They caught up with the Samoa Observer while browsing through the Savalalo market yesterday.

They told the Observer that even though they came on a humanitarian experience for youth to work on a housing project - they also came to experience all the beautiful things and culture of Samoa.

For the two friends, it was the first time they had been to the Pacific and was the furthest they had ever travelled from the United States.

They were both amazed at the beauty of the islands

“I thought it was so beautiful,” Joey said.

“The mountains and the ocean were beautiful – I like the humidity because Utah is super super dry. I just love the island so much, in Utah we have the Rocky Mountains as our view but here the mountains are just super green, it’s so beautiful.”

Sky was mostly touched by her interactions with the locals.

“We have also been really welcomed by the people, everyone is friendly and all the local people that we have visited every day have made us their family.”

For Sky, having Samoan friends back in Utah made the visit even more special.

“I am here with my two sons and that’s one of the reasons why we picked Samoa, because of some of the people from Samoa that we know in Utah and we really love them and appreciate their hard work, their friendliness and their culture, so it’s been nice to come and see where they grew up.”

As for Joey, there was no hesitation on whether he would return to visit Samoa again.

 “Oh yeah. In a heartbeat.”
