Stopping development

Re: Land lease matter of choice

“He was responding to assuage public fears that opening up of the channel and the reviving of the wharf will invite big business interests during a time when there are real public concerns about the alienation of customary lands.”

Really? Whoever these people are in the public, are they really wanting to stop economic development in Asau (or anywhere else in Samoa) because of customary land fears?

Would they rather they just remain poor on their lands? Would they rather wait around for the NZ Quota to leave the country because they can’t earn anything from their lands?

This public debate has reached levels of stupidity if there are people out there seriously arguing against the economic development of Asau (and elsewhere) just in case families dare to lease their lands.
