The Samoa Red Cross Society is holding a fundraising clothing stall over the next two weeks for its ongoing programs.
The sale is being held at their headquarters at Tuana’imato.
Namulauulu Tautala Mauala, the Secretary General of the Samoa Red Cross, said that they are casting an appeal for donations.
“We’re appealing to the public and whoever has any unwanted goods or surplus goods,” she said.
While the current fundraiser is selling clothing, other items such as books and furniture are also accepted. The Red Cross society have volunteers with carpentry skills who can refurbish unused furniture.
Currently in Samoa there are over two thousand volunteers who include blood donors, first aid officers and those volunteering in the water and sanitation program.
Mauala mentioned that many of these volunteers are students, dedicating their weekends or holiday time.
Disaster relief is a major component of the Red Cross Society’s work and donated clothes may be used in disaster packages and others will be sold.
With limited income, Mauala explained that any fundraised money will be put to good use.
“Our only income is from commercial first aid courses,” she said.
Funds from the volunteer-run sale will be directed towards ongoing programs in disaster relief, blood donor recruitment, first aid, water and sanitation and welfare.
